SCC external backup fails to CIFS share hosted on EMC or NetApp filer

Categories: SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead (CMC-VE), SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead (Central Management Console)
Solution Number: S29282

SCC external backups fail to a CIFS share hosted on an EMC OneFS or a NetApp CDot filer. The errors below are observed in logs

cmc_backup[25447]: [cmc_backup.ERR]: transfer_config: Upload failed: [Errno 32] Broken pipe
kernel:CIFS VFS: Error -32 Backup server is out of space
kernel:CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server

This issue is due to the SCC using a large packet write size in the NTLMSSP CIFS mount. During the external backup the SCC can send a write larger then 65536 bytes which causes to much traffic to get sent to the filer which ultimately causes the connection to drop

In SCC 9.5.1 or newer a hidden command was introduced to set the max write size used for the CIFS mount. Please upgrade to SCC 9.5.1 or newer and run the hidden command below from the configuration prompt to resolve this issue
cmc cifs mount wsize 65536

Other workaround:
Customer can use a none nettap Cdot filer , such as a common windows file server, as a work around for backup

SCC 9.0.0 - 9.5.0
External Backup
NetApp CDot
