Issue

The packet storage shows as status inoperable.

Solution

Step 1. Please note down the actual serial number of the appliance, The Serial numbers are located on the back-panel of the Shark, Usually they start with "K".  This will be needed if a case needs to be opened.

Step 2. Shut down the appliance with the shutdown button on the Status tab of the Web Interface, then disconnect the power cable.

Step 3. Remove the small screw on one side of the appliance that latches the lid to the chassis. Open the appliance by pushing the two round buttons on the top of the appliance and sliding the lid backwards.

Step 4. Without disconnecting the SATA drive cables, remove the RAID card from the chassis:

1U Shark: The RAID card is fastened by a small metallic plate and a screw in the back of the chassis. You might need to remove the NIC card to access the RAID card.

2U Shark: The RAID card is fastened by a clip that is accessible from the back of the chassis. No screwdriver is necessary. You might need to remove the NIC card(s) to access the RAID card.

Step 5. Disconnect the cable(s) from the old RAID card and re-connect them, making sure to respect the order in case of multiple cables and cards. You disconnect the cable by pushing the metallic clip on the black connector and pulling back. The cable is properly seated in the socket of the card when you hear a small click.

Step 6. Insert the card back into its slot firmly and fasten it with the appropriate latch and/or screw.

Step 7. Close the chassis lid and fasten it with the small screw on one side.

Step 8 - END. Power up the appliance and check that everything is working fine:

a. Go to the Web Interface and expand the Storage section, the status of the Packet Storage should be 'OK'. If not, Try a "Re-initialize Packet Storage"

b. Sometimes, the web interface is broken and the button is grayed out.  If the button is grayed out, ssh into the Shark with admin/admin.  From command line, run this command 3 times:

packet-storage reinitialize

Then check the web UI.  If this does not fix your problem, please generate the Shark logs and contact technical support.
