This article provide the steps to collect system logs known as "SteelCentral collect file" from the SteelCentral NetProfiler, NetExpress, or Flow Gateway. These logs are required by Riverbed TAC team in troubleshooting the problem the unit is facing.
Solution
Create log bundle from web UI
To create a collect file from the web UI:
Log into the appliance through your web browser.
Navigate to the page System > Information.
Scroll to the very bottom of the page. Click the button, "Generate new collect file". A download link will become available once the creation of the file is completed.
An alternate method exists for creating a collect file from command line. This may be preferred if one wants to upload the file directly from NetProfiler to the Riverbed FTP site. To download the file to one's workstation, one must use an SCP client, such as WinSCP.
Connect to the appliance via SSH or serial console.
Log in with the 'mazu' account.
Issue the command:
sudo mazu-collect
It may print some warnings, which can usually be ignored. File generation is complete when the prompt becomes available again. The filename will be, mazu-collect.iso
Creation of the file will usually take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on how busy the system is. On very busy systems, it may take several hours.
On a NetProfiler Enterprise cluster, it will gather logs from all cluster appliances into a single collect file.
NetProfiler will not collect logs from Flow Gateway. A collect file must be created on Flow Gateway directly.
