Issue
  • Unable to obtain link on Steelhead LAN or WAN port
  • Problem occurs in a previously functional deployment
  • LAN and/or WAN interfaces are directly connected to the respective switch/router port (no PoE adapter)
  • Steelhead is Model 150, 250, 550, 555 or 755

 

Solution
  • Open a case with Riverbed Support to request a RMA
  • Deploy replacement device with the PoE adapter in line

Explanation:

Model 150, 250, 550, 555 and 755 Steelheads ship with a PoE adapter to protect interfaces from burn out associated with misapplied PoE voltage (typically during power events).
Best practice dictates the PoE adapter be deployed inline with the LAN/WAN ports to protect the interfaces from burn out.
